product and why?
as we have created a low budget thriller as an independent British film making company our areas to which we can distribute our film is limited drastically. Mostly due to financial reasons.
these are the steps in distributing a film:
Film Production: making the film
Film Distribution: Securing the placement of the film on an exhibitor's screen and for home viewingthe place the audience watch the film (cinema screen)
Film Exhibition: the place the audience watch the film (cinema screen)
the place of exhibition will be difficult as there as so many areas we could go down, however some may not even give us the time of day as we are not a known company, also some you will have to pay lots of money so that narrows down our options drastically.
I think the analogue area such as cinema and DVD/video are out of the equation as this area is still for the high end Hollywood movies as it costs so much.
However i think the digital area could allow us to distribute our film in at least one way.
take for example YouTube, it is free to upload videos and it reaches a very large number of our target audience. Also there is a chance that we could actually bring in some form of money from it as if it gets enough views you can allow advertisements on it.
The other forms of digital distribution are again out of the question as it costs money and you need to be a well known company to get a chance.
